Jobbing June
The Friends of Conway Rec were in action again on Sunday 8 June. The weather was more than kind and lots got done, even though some of our fine volunteers couldn’t make this session. (There will be another chance on Sunday 13 July!)
Here’s a list of the tasks undertaken and completed by our hard-working volunteers:

- intrusive growth was cleared from around the pond edging, making the stonework safer and cleaner;
- a Spring barley boom was constructed and launched. Its popularity as a perching spot for water birds was immediately apparent!
- heavy brambles and unattractive dead plants were removed from under the oak trees next to the pond;
- grassy edges and patches were beautifully mown, helping to create a better balance between wilder and softer green areas;
- litter across the whole of the park and its surrounds was fastidiously picked, sorted and binned (worth saying that the amount was small – a testament to the thoughtfuless of the Rec’s visitors);
- green waste was barrowed to compost corner or, in the case of branches and other heavier residue, to the Cannon Road collection point;
- the route to the storage sheds behind the Tennis Clubhouse was cleared of unwelcome mares’ tail growth and obstacles;
- the hedge along Pen Row (the path linking Conway and Cannon Roads) was pruned to remove encroachment on the walkway and open the ‘windows’ onto the tennis courts;
- pathways into and inside the Dell (the wilder area behind tennis court 5) were cleared and tidied;
- the ‘Learning Circle’ mosaic and information panels along the top pathway were washed and polished.

The team also managed to squeeze in a hot drink or two and a serious attack on chocolate digestive and ginger biscuits. Well deserved – and so say all of us!!
