On Sunday 3 November – squeezed between Halloween and Guy Fawkes – the Friends of Conway Rec turned out for another morning’s work. It was great to have young Josh and Eva join us with Gran Julie to do a thorough, park-wide litter pick. We were also delighted to welcome new member Chris from Selborne Road and more than a dozen regular grafters. Thanks to everyone’s energy and enthusiasm, plenty of jobs got done, including:
- bulb planting in some grassy corners;
- tidying in and around the pond (including removal of a rather larger flock of tennis balls than usual!);
- removal of unwanted suckers from the grass areas close to our Cannon Road end flower beds;
- simplification and beautification of those same flower beds;
- strimming of clumpy grass areas close to tennis court 5;
- serious clearing of fallen leaves and branches from the top path;
- pruning of the decidous hedges around the Clubhouse patio and tennis court 3;
- adjustments to reduce condensation in our noticeboard at Cannon Road corner;
- general sweeping, barrowing and piling of green waste for Council collection.
The team also managed a brief pause for the critically important four Cs (chair, coffee, cake and chat).
