Strimming, sweeping, weeding, barrowing, pruning, grass cutting, pond cleaning, hedge trimming, mosaic and information-panel washing, composting and litter picking – plus coffee, biscuits and chat. Sunday was another work day with our wonderful volunteers who help to keep Conway Rec green, clean and safe for local families and visitors.

Gary worked the mower hard till the battery expired; Derek, Chris and Martin pruned the hedge beautifully along Pen Row (the pathway linking Cannon and Conway Roads; David, Barry, Fran and Mick cleared and tidied around the pond and under the oaks; Jo washed, scrubbed and carried our green waste to the collection point; Michael, Tony and Julia cleared and tidied; Ilona, Sue and Graham provided TLC to the flower patches, the Dell and the Clubhouse surrounds, amongst other jobs; Phil and Keith worked on the deciduous courtside hedge; and Mary litter-picked and brewed. The weather’s been warm and mostly dry, so some small tree watering was also done. The pond water was a little low, but looking good.

The Friends of the Rec (Reccers) come from many of our local streets, including Fox Lane, The Mall and Conway, Selborne, Cannon, Harlech and Ulleswater Roads. It’s always good to recruit more local helpers, so just drop a line to friendsofconwayrec@gmail.com if you are interested. There are no membership fees, no obligations and no overload of messages. Just come when you can, tackle jobs you enjoy, keep in touch with local events and be part of a welcoming and sociable team.
